Let your inner rabbit ponder this. A year ago one of the many rabbits in Richmond made his way into a large planter in the apartment complex I live in. A female rabbit was unfortunately put in the same area and after various scenarios, six feral domestic rabbits resulted. They have been fed and looked after by rabbit-loving residents for a full year. These rabbits have been trapped by humans and forced to rely on humans for their survival and care. Now, the strata council is saying that the rabbits are no longer welcome due to damage to shrubbery. Of the six rabbits, five are male. The mother is the only female and I had her spayed. I have turned to many agencies purporting to help rabbits, but none are willing to take them due to their own overload. I have argued with the strata that if the rabbits were neutered, they may be less destructive. I have also proposed that they be allowed to stay on the property if people would care for them and implement preventative measures to halt further damage to shrubs. I feel I've exhausted every avenue available and simply cannot accept putting these rabbits down. If there's anyone out there who could assist me with convincing a strata council to drop their ban or who could take them (after they've been neutered) and allow them to maintain the only lifestyle they know, which is being outside and digging burrows and being fed and cared for by loving patrons, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
